Background:
Building opened by Princess Anne in 1988; orignally built as open plan, it has since been divided into individual classrooms; surrounded by beautiful gardens and fields; computer suite is recent addition. Strong musical tradition, with peripatetic music teacher employed for 1.5 days a week. Extra-curricular activities include sports, cookery, gardening, astronomy, crafts, traditional games, and Christian clubs. Strong links with Walkden Methodist Church. Successful netball team; other sports are football, rugby, gymnastics, athletics and cricket. Weekly Spanish lessons for Year 4 and 5 pupils; introductory French for Year 6. Strong community links with local hospice. Headteacher among those invited to meet Prince Charles at Highgrove in 2003. DfES achievement award (2003). The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, yet quiet and industrious. Relationships between everybody are excellent and the whole ethos is built on the Christian foundation of the school.
