Background:

St Philip's CE Primary School was founded by the Church of England and the church maintains an active interest in the school, including the provision of funds to keep the buildings in good condition. A wide range of extra curricular activities are provided including gardening, technology, computer, choir, drama, media studies, football and judo clubs. The school has a number of strong community links, including an active relationship with the Education Business Partnership, and annually raises around #1,000 for a specific charitable organisation. 'We have developed a reputation within our community for establishing a secure, caring and industrious environment, in which children can achieve their full potential.' In September 2000 the school gained Beacon School status, having been the first primary school to be nominated for the award by the local education authority.
