Background:

Opened in 1964 with 'a life expectancy of 25 years', the school reports that, due to lack of funding, its buildings are in a 'desperate' state of disrepair with rotten windows and door frames and a leaking roof among its problems. Despite this, the school aims to be a place which is 'exciting and stimulating yet stable and secure'. Moorside is active in all extra-curricular events including lacrosse, rugby, chess, athletics, cross-country, netball and football. The school recognises the importance of catering for children with 'wide ranging abilities' and special provision is made from within the school's own resources for children with learning difficulties and for the exceptionally bright. Moorside gets involved in 'anything and everything' offered by the local community, particularly their annual charity fund raising event which has raised money for many charities including the NSPCC and Red Cross.
