Background:

Heald Place Primary has a 'wonderful ethnic mix of pupils from all over the world', speaking a variety of languages and practising different religions. The school benefits from close proximity to the city centre, Manchester University, local musuems, art galleries, Manchester City Football Ground and Platt Field Park. It is housed in a three-storey building which is 100 years old but which has since been remodelled with additions such as the community room. There are also three playgrounds, a 'large' field and the use of a basketball court. Extra-curricular activites include a football club, after school study club and basketball club. The school raises money for charities that operate in the UK and internationally, holding fun runs, a Harvest collection and jumble sales. It has an 'active and supportive' governing body, and has developed 'very good' parental and community links. The school offers classes for parents in English and keep fit, in addition to workshops covering topics such as how to help their children with their homework, reading, literacy, science and SATs. It encourages presentations by memebers of the community on road safety, fire safety, drugs education awareness, health education and personal safety.
