Background:

St Anthony's RC Primary was opened in 1954 by the Shrewsbury Diocese and run on their behalf by the governing body in partnership with Manchester City Council. The school is situated in 6.5 acres of land adjoining the 'beautiful' parish church, the parish social centre and the presbytery. A nursery was built in 1975 for under three-year-olds. 'The nursery grounds have been enhanced and it is hoped to upgrade the extensive grounds surrounding the school.' During 1998-9, #18,000 was raised by parents and children for charities and #75,000 has been raised by parents in order to build a new information technology block.
