Background:

The school was built in 1975 and is housed in a modern building in extensive grounds consisting of large playing fields and three playgrounds. The school is situated in a rural location on the outskirts of Shaw. In addition to the National Curriculum, Spanish is taught in Year 5 and French in Year 6. A peripatetic teacher teaches group brass instruments and the school is proud of its brass band, which is of 'a very high standard'. Curricular sport includes rounders, netball, football, rugby, hockey skills and cricket and extra-curricular football, rugby, rounders and netball are also offered. Sports teams enter local leagues and competitions and achieve 'highly', recently winning several trophies. The school has strong links with local homes for the elderly. Parental support and involvement in the school is 'very good' and the parent support group raises funds to support the school's work with the children. Before- and after-school care is provided in the church hall close by.
