Background:

Brookway is an 11-16 high school set in approximately seven hectares of attractive grounds in South Manchester. Major refurbishment of a large part of the school and new facilities for information and communication technology has resulted in an excellent learning environment. The school has been a Sports College since September 2000 and also has benefited greatly from enhanced funding under the 'Excellence in Cities' initiative. It has its own learning support unit, a learning mentor scheme that was awarded the National Mentoring award in March 2004. In 2003-2004 the school were recognised by the DfES and the Specialist Schools Trust as one of the 100 most improved schools. Pupils have a wide choice of out-of-hours sporting opportunities ranging from traditional team games, such as netball and football, to individual sports, such as table tennis and athletics. There is a full programme of inter-school sporting fixtures involving boys and girls of all ages and all year groups take part in inter-form competitions. It also has achieved the prestigious Sportsmark award. The school aims to provide a safe, secure and caring environment where each individual can reach his or her potential.
